Susie Smith is the Artist/Designer behind BLUE SUSIE DESIGNS. Her creative eye leads her to design with bold style. Her pieces are color rich, chunky and always one of a kind!
The artist grew up in New York City in a wonderful brownstone house, immersed right from the beginning in the art world since both parents were established artists. Her inspiration was spurred by a love of frequent weekend visits to museums, especially the Metropolitan Museum. She was fascinated with everything Egyptian, Roman, Greek—their paintings, but especially their wonderfully simple yet bold and colorful jewelry designs.
For many years while married and raising children in San Francisco she put all of her expression into painting, but when the children were gone, she and her husband moved to Sedona and she began to delve into Colonial Mexican art, antique Indian jewelry and all sorts of ethnic arts and designs. Her jewelry making began really from a simple need—an attractive beaded chain to hold her glasses—not just the usual black cord. This was the start of it all and BLUE SUSIE DESIGNS was launched. She started to go to gem shows and began to love the quest for just the right beads, old crosses and stones—old African trade beads, big chunks of turquoise, wood and glass, bold ethnic pieces to add. The fun is in putting wonderful pieces together—utterly satisfying and always unique!
